A Rustic DIY Wedding at Muse Farm in Georgia

I love weddings where the bride infuses her personality into the event! Sara was such a bride. It was a DIY wedding since she and Josh were paying for most of the wedding themselves. But, she did not allow budgetary constraints to keep her from having a memorable and personal celebration. She put on her creative hat and planned a soirée that was elegant and beautiful.

A Rustic DIY Wedding at Muse Farm in Georgia

The wedding couple had a rustic DIY wedding at Muse Farm in Georgia on October 12, 2014. Vows were exchanged outdoors; guests sat on bales of hay covered with linens. After the ceremony, the wedding reception ensued inside the barn.

Sara may have a second career as a wedding decorator! Her wedding was adorable. She knew she wanted to make many of the decorations, but she steered clear of it looking “crafty.” After browsing weddings online she decided that she didn’t want a generic theme or color palette. She wanted the ambiance of an elegant dinner party at home.

The couple looked at many venues, ultimately choosing Muse Farm. Sara said, “It is absolutely gorgeous. I loved the rustic feel and the antiques decorating the landscape.”

On the table decorations: “I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on fresh flowers that would die before we returned home from our honeymoon.” Both Sara and her mom are devotees of antiques and unusual decor. The duo decided this was the way to go with the table decor. So the hunt began! They collected items from her house, her mother’s house, and her mother’s friend’s house. Gleefully, she recognized this was a great opportunity to buy wedding decorations and use them in her home afterward. Talk about great mementos!

Each table decoration was unique. The centerpieces were like what you would find in a home.

On the flowers: “I wanted paper flowers for the boutonnieres and bouquets.” For the bridesmaids bouquets she found unique paper flower heads on Artfire.com. The flower heads were glued to stems. She attached the flower stems to bouquet holders and styrofoam. Jute and burlap were wrapped around the bouquets.

Sara wanted her bouquet to be similar, but with the addition of brooches. Her mother ordered brooches from eBay. Sara attached them to the paper flower bouquet. Picture frame charms from Michaels added the finishing touch.

Her ingenuity continued with her rustic wedding invitations. Sara wanted a lace feel for the invitations without them being too “girly.” She found a design online and modified it to her liking. Using her Silhouette camo, she printed and cut all 250 invitations. She also made the program fans with the same machine.

Her father made the ceremony entrance doors. She and Josh made the photo booth with props ordered from Etsy. A family friend made their cake. By making 90% of the wedding items themselves they were able to splurge on a band.

Sara and Josh’s wedding was truly a family affair, and one to remember!
