Groomsmen playing foosball at Rockwall Wedding Chapel

I went to a wedding that happened to be outdoors during the summer in Texas. Needless to say, it was hot- very hot. While the bride and groom did think to provide iced tea and lemonade before the ceremony, they did not have any other accommodations to put their guests at ease during their beautiful yet scorching wedding. This got me thinking about guest comfort at weddings in general. Weddings should be focused on the dreams of the bride and groom, but it is important to remember how comfortable the guests will be during your big day. To help brides during the stress of planning their weddings, I came up with a few wedding guests comfort tips ideas.

• Have your program information printed on fans for the hot summer days or warm indoor locations.

• Provide light refreshments and snacks pre-ceremony for those guests who get there early and can’t wait for dinner time.

• Wrap wedding colored pashminas around the women’s chairs at the reception. If they get cold, they can use their pashmina as a wrap-plus they double as favors. Just make sure to pin a note on the pashmina or make an announcement so they know they can keep them.

• Men will always attend weddings to support friends and family but do they really love going? Make their time more enjoyable by providing some good micro brewed beers for them to try throughout the night. Another idea is to rent pinball/arcade games! They will have a blast and remember your wedding as a truly fun-filled night!

• Having a lot of kids attend the reception? Help prevent boredom and meltdowns with kid-friendly tables. Instead of using linens on the kid tables, use color coordinated butcher paper. Place baskets with crayons, coloring pages, stickers, and books on the table for them. Let them (and the parents) know they can take some home as kid-friendly favors as well! Also try offering kid-friendly dinner options such as grilled cheese and chicken strips. I once attended the Christmas buffet at the Gaylord Texan. They not only have kid friendly food, the serving stations are kid sized.

• With so many dietary need out there these days, it can be difficult and confusing to please everyone at meal time. Try a buffet with a variety of options including red meat, white meat, vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free. Having a sit down dinner? Have at least two options per course.

Your guests are there to help you celebrate and support you as husband and wife. They are important to you as a couple so remember to make them feel as special as you do on this day. You will remember this day for the rest of your life; don’t forget to make it just as memorable for your loved ones!
